Hello my dear friend,
On our way to school this week
I heard my daughters talking about
the show we recently
went to see.
This year as a Birthday
present to our girls,
we booked a flight to Amsterdam
to take them to a concert they had been
talking about with such enthusiasm
for months.
Thinking about that day…
I don’t believe I’ve ever been
surrounded by so many excited
teenage girls…
Waving their lightsticks in the air
and chanting the song lyrics
like a pledge of allegiance
in unison.
Until that day.
And I am so grateful
we were able to give our children
this experience.
But instead of talking about
the stage design, the music or
the dance moves…
What I heard
on our way to school was
how wonderful the singers were…
How they were doing their absolute best
as two of the six members of the band
were taking a mental
health break.
They were praising these artists,
these incredibly beautiful women,
for their kindness and
resilience.
That’s what they saw.
Women being kind to one another.
Supporting one another.
Allowing each other to rest.
And still succeeding.
“How can people be upset
that they got to see the four
members of the band?
They still got to see them.
And they were amazing.”
I listened to my
daughter speaking
with passion.
And I was
so proud of my girls
for protecting other women…
No matter how
big the stage.
With love,
Elina Janevica.
