The Superpower

Sometimes when I’m picking up
my daughters from school,
the parking lot is quite empty.

This wasn’t one of those days.
Tightly parked cars were lining the edges
of the already small parking lot.

But there was one empty space.
Just for me.

I started to back into
the tiny space.
And, yes, the car fit in there.
But I was yet to find a way
to climb out of it…

That seemed like a perfect job
for a contortionist,
but, unfortunately,
I wasn’t one.

All of a sudden, however,
the car right next to my door
started to move…
It rearranged itself
just a little further to the side,
giving me enough room
to climb out.

I hadn’t even noticed
the driver.

I had assumed that the car
was just a parked car…
So this kind gesture really
took me by surprise.

I got out and knocked
on his window.

“Thank you for doing that!
Thank you for moving so that
I have a space to climb out!”
I smiled and said to the driver.

His initial confusion
quickly disappeared.

Then he lowered his eyes and
with a bashful smile replied -
“That wasn’t a big deal.”

But that’s the thing…
It’s often the little things
that make the difference.

And this little gesture
made a difference in my day.
His kindness made a difference.

I will never stop repeating
that kindness is a superpower.
And this superpower is within all of us.
We just sometimes don’t realise it…
Or maybe we forget.

But one kind gesture
can really change a person’s day.

So have a beautiful week
and use your superpowers
generously.

With love,
Elina
