The Unremarkable Day

Hi my dear friend,

There are times when
I look back at the day that has
just come and gone
and think…

What did I actually do today?

Apart from driving
my children back and forth,
from one destination to another,
in a precise and timely manner.

Tidying the kitchen.
Feeding the cats.

And doing a scavenger hunt
for all the half-full water glasses
scattered around the house.

Answering emails,
paying bills,
ordering socks…

Whilst trying to remember
what else did I need to buy,
now that I am getting these.

Otherwise
it just doesn't make sense
to order socks by themselves
online.

Reminding the children
to check for homework.
Moving my body.
Eating food.

And desperately trying
NOT to forget to RSVP to that one
birthday invitation we received…
last week.

All in all,
just an ordinary day
of being a mum.

And yet.
No one I love died today.

I didn't receive a phone call
that would cut my life in half.

I didn't have to spend
the night at the hospital.

I didn't have to worry
about what's to come.

It was just
an ordinary day.

And…
it was wonderful.

With love,
